You didn't think I would let this year pass without making one last post, did you? I just realized I totally missed celebrating my 100th post, and my completion of a whole year of blogging, so instead I will celebrate my 130th post along with the beginning of a whole new year. Yay, happy 130th post, blog! So in honor of this lovely occasion I present you this lovely home from the December issue of Maison Française Turkish edition.

Son bir yazı yazmadan yılın geçip gitmesine izin vereceğimi düşünmediniz değil mi? 100. yazımı ve blog'umun ilk yıldönümünü kutlamayı tamamen unuttuğumu farkettim, onlar yerine bu yazımla 130. yazımı kutlama kararı aldım. 130. yazın kutlu olsun blog! Bu güzel vesile ile Masion Française'in Aralık sayısından bu güzel evi sizlerle paylaşıyorum. Aslında Maison Française yaz boyu tek tip Bodrum evleri yayınlayarak bana illallah getirdiği için almayı bırakmıştım ama bu sayı ile tekrar gönlümü kazandı.

The owners of this house are interior designer Isil and Tekin Kahraman, and it is located in Istanbul. Natural light is always present in this lovely home, curtains are very simple and the kitchen has a glass ceiling. All doors are also from glass to maintain light circulation.

Ev sahipleri iç mekan tasarımcısı Işıl ve Tekin Kahraman. İstanbul Uskumruköy'de bulunan bu evden gün ışığı hiç eksik olmuyor, tüm kapılar ve mutfağın tavanı camdan. Perdeler de son derece sade.

They didn't buy any new furniture, most furniture pieces had been custom-made before they even had this house. The cream sofas are custom made, the cream coffee table with wheels is designed by owner Isil. The wooden antique pieces are mostly family heirlooms.

The floors are hardwood all throughout the house, except for under the dining table and in front of the fireplace; those places are floored with Turkish "çini" tiles. There are no carpets or rugs anywhere.

The tiles are such a brilliant idea. I too dislike rugs but also don't know what to do with empty looking floors. This is just perfect and beautiful. The metal lamps over the table are from Ikea.

Çinileri halı gibi kullanmak gerçekten de harika bir fikir. Ben de halıları pek sevmemekle birlikte bomboş yerlerin yarattığı "yeni taşınmış" görüntüsünden hoşlanmıyorum. Bu çözüm mükemmel ve çok güzel gözüküyor. Yemek masasının üzerinde asılı metal lambalar Ikea'dan.

Next to the fireplace is a rustic stove which works with embers from the fire, they use it for simmering tea and roasting chestnuts - there is no greater winter delight. I heard that making Turkish coffee this way results in the most perfect Turkish coffee ever.

Şöminenin yanında köy usulü, şömineden közlerle yanan bir ocak var, bu ocakta kışın çay demleniyor ya da kestane kebap yapılıyor. Közde pişen Türk kahvesinin de dillere destan olduğunu duymuştum ben.

The sunlit kitchen is the favorite space among the household and guests. The couple bought the house when it was still a rough construction and they initially thought of building the kitchen in the middle of the house, but decided against that in order to take advantage of the high ceiling here.

Günışığı dolu mutfak ev ahalisi ve misafirlerin evde en sevdikleri mekanmış. Çift bu evi alırken ev daha kaba inşaat halindeymiş ve ilk düşünceleri mutfağı evin ortasına konumlandırmakmış ancak sonra yüksek tavandan faydalanabilmek amacıyla bu fikirlerinden vazgeçmişler. Yine de salon-yemek alanı-mutfak üçlüsünü iç içe tasarlayarak bu alanlar arasında bütünlük oluşturmuşlar.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. As you may know, we don't have Christmas in Turkey but the joyful holiday spirit has spread all the way over here too, we celebrate New Year's as a mix of New Year's and Christmas :) So for us, Christmas is yet to come! I had an "early" one last Sunday with my parents, who came over to my house, and fed me all sorts of culinary delicacies throughout the weekend. They even made their New Year's specialty; deliciously soft and smooth turkey with crunchy crumb & blackcurrant sauce. My mom also did her magic in the house and sorted out the fridge, and we discovered a bunch of forgotten apples. So yesterday I wanted to quickly sift through some apple pie recipes but ended up spending the whole day drooling at the wonderful pictures at Bread and Honey and Sweet Paul. God knows how much I love those two blogs, even though they always result in me binge eating sweet, sweet carbs of all sorts. I completely ransacked the New Year baskets sent to our office, oh well, they shouldn't have put them next to my desk, they're lucky I didn't drink the wines :) Happy New Year!

Çevremden kime sorsam yılbaşında "hiiiiiç" yapacak ve evde geçirecek. Ben de evdeyim, hem zaten ben yılbaşını hafta sonu bana gelen ailemle geçen Pazar kutladım bile :) Ailem haftasonu boyunca beni olağanüstü tatlarla besledikten sonra Pazar akşamı kendi icatları gizli yöntemleriyle (gizli çünkü bu şekilde hindi tavuk butu kadar yumuşak oluyor) pişirdikleri kıtırlı-kuş üzümlü enfes yumuşacık hindi ile noktayı koydular. Annem mutfağıma "anne eli" değdirince buzdolabı toparlanıverdi ve bir sürü unutulmuş elma bulundu. Dün elmalı turta tariflerine biz göz atayım derken tüm günüm ağzımın suları aka aka Bread and Honey ve Sweet Paul bloglarına bakarak geçti. Linkler size yeni yıl hediyem olsun. Bu iki blogu da çok seviyorum, bende şeker ve karbonhidrat kudurukluğuna yol açmalarına rağmen. İşyerine gelen yılbaşı sepetlerini resmen yağmaladım ama şükretsinler şaraplara bulaşmadan sadece çikolatalara odaklandım:) Mutlu yıllar hepinize!

Ailem geçen yıl İstanbul'da yaşadığımız evi bana bırakarak şehirdışına, bahçeli bir eve taşındılar. O da yetmedi, enfes manzaralı bir tepede bir başına küçük, sevimli mi sevimli bir çiftlik evi yapıyorlar. Hatta evimizin yapım aşamalarını, bahçemizden gelen lezzetleri MeyveliTepe adlı bloglarında anlatıyor ailem. Orayı gördükçe benim de canım kır evi yaşamı çekiyor. Tabii benim hayatım burada olduğu için tek elimden gelen apartman dairemde kır evi stilini kullanmak olabilir. Bu yıl, şu anda dekorasyonu beni pek de tatmin etmemekte olan evimi tarz sahibi getirmeyi hedefliyorum. İşte yapmak istediğim bazı değişiklikler:

Last year, my family moved to a house at the countryside, leaving our apartment in Istanbul to me. And now they are building a very sweet, beautiful farm house at a tiny village up a hill with a breathtaking sea view. They're even documenting the stages of the building process, and the fresh edible delicacies from our garden at their blog Meyvelitepe (which is unfortunately Turkish only). Anyways, the blessings of the country life leave me envious, and I want to at least reflect that style to my apartment in Istanbul. So my main wish of this new year is renovating my home into a stylish place, especially because I'm not very happy with the way it looks now. Here are some changes I wish I could make:

1- Pencere çerçevelerini değiştirmek. Sıcak görünümlü bir ev için ilk adım evi gerçekten ısıtabilmek!

1-Having the window frames renewed. The first step for a cozy home is making the place actually warm!

2-Badana yaptırmak, tercihen belirgin ancak daha sonra sıkılmayacağım bir renge. Salonumun tam olarak aşağıdaki renge boyalı olmasını istiyorum!

2-Having the walls painted to bold colors, probably neutrals so I won't get bored too soon. I want my living room to be exactly this color:

3- Duvarlara resimler asmak. Bunlar ya gerçek sanat eserleri, ya hayvan ve doğa temalı ilüstrasyonlar, ya da fotoğrafçılık okuyan yetenekli kuzenimin çektiği güzel fotoğraflardan seçmeler olabilir. Güzel resimleri şık çerçevelerde duvarda gruplamak istiyorum.

3- Putting some artwork on the walls. These could be prints, animal and nature themed illustrations, or selected photos taken by my talented cousin who is currently doing his degree on photography. I want to have my artwork framed and grouped on my walls.

4- Beyaz olan koltuklarıma kılıf diktirmek ve bunu yaparken renk ve desenlerden korkmamak istiyorum.

4-I want to get new covers for my sofas, and not be afraid of colors and patterns while doing this.

5- Sıcak, lüks, zengin görünümlü bir yatak odası, yumuşacık yastıklar ve kocaman bir yatak başı istiyorum.

5- I want to have a warm, luxurious, rich bedroom with lots of cushions and a big headboard.

6- Evimde bulunan yığınla eski, mis kokulu kitabı salonumda kullanmak. Salonum kitap koksa, Jane Eyre romanındaki malikanenin kütüphanesinin gizemli, yoğun, sıcak havasına bürünse... Bir de tavana kadar uzanan ahşap bir kütüphane merdiveni eklesem, sonra bu manzarayı seyre doyamasam.

6-Putting the old, lovely smelling books that I have into my living room. I'm thinking up-to-the-ceiling shelves, and a tall wooden ladder, just like an old library, so my living room can have that mysterious, warm vibe of Mr. Rochester's library from the novel Jane Eyre!

7- Halılardan hiç hoşlanmıyorum; el işi yün halılardan, ucuz makine işi paspasa benzeyenlerden, kilim desenlerinden, çiçek desenlerinden, o şekilsiz çirkin modern desenlerden. Halısız yaşamayı denedim, ama ev ananemin deyişiyle "yeni taşınıyormuş gibi" gözüktüğü için onu da sevmedim. Seveceğim, sıkılmayacağım, evi ısıtacak ancak göze batmayacak halılar edinmek istiyorum.

7-I dislike carpets; handmade rugs, cheap manifactured ones, kilims, flower patterns, those ugly modern patterns, I dislike them all. I tried living without carpets, but as my grandmother puts it, it made my house "as if I'm just moving in". So I want to find rugs that I like, won't be bored of, and won't have to pay a fortune for.

8- Evin içinde bir kokulu ot bahçesi oluşturmak, yemyeşil otları terracotta saksılarda yetiştirmek, sonra onları taze taze koparıp yemeklerime koymak.

8-Starting a herb garden, inside rough terracotta flower pots. I just love using fresh herbs in my cooking.

9- Anneannem evlendiğinde piyangodan çıkan parayla aldığı güzelim ahşap koltuğu ona yakışacak bir kumaşla kaplatmak istiyorum. Kadife, ya da vintage görünümlü birşeyler olabilir.

9- I have this wooden armchair that my grandmother bought when she got married, with the money they won from the lottery. It has great sentimental value, so I want to have it upholstered with a pretty fabric. Could be velvet or something vintage-y. Sorry I don't have a picture, besides, I would be too ashamed to show it here with the awful cow print thing we had it upholstered with at a horribly silly moment.

Bu evi stil sahibi hale getirmek için bir senede atılabilecek adımlar bu kadar, tamamen iflah etmek birkaç yılımı alır herhalde. Şimdilik herkese mutlu, ışıltılı yıllar!

I guess that's all that can be done in a year, though I probably need several years to make this apartment totally stylish. For now, have a happy, glamorous new year everybody!
