Jaime Derringer's story at Huffington Post  about the release of a new wood color -oak- of the Fritz Hansen Series 7 chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1955. I have always been fond of its design, now I'm admiring the production and Fritz Hansen's attention to detail and quality. Machinery and artisanship going hand in hand.

The difficulty in finding coloured braid flex is ridiculous. I'm surely going to stock up when I come by some. It's not a new thing but as you can see above, red looks particularly good combined with other colours.

Ikea Frosta stools dipped in Plastidip; a rubbery paint. These remind me of those leg warmer things that race horses wear. So pretty. I think the universe doesn't want me to get my hands on a can of Plastidip, God knows I might even consider stepping in a bucketful to get me some permanent shoes.

I have a Vico Magistretti Selene chair in reddish burgundy. I didn't know what to do with it until I saw this picture. I think it's going to make it's way to the kitchen very soon. On a side note, thanks to Anna from Door Sixteen, I'm dying to paint a wall, any wall black. Only question is which wall, which paint? We don't have Benjamin Moore here, if we did I'd go for Anna's choice "Soot".

Embroidery Chairs by Johan Lindstén. This is only one of the beautiful designs that the lucky bunch who are able to visit Stockholm Design Week 2010 can see in person. This might not exactly be what I consider as clever, simple, sophisticated design, but it is a chair that I certainly take pleasure in looking at, and would gladly have in my home.

Farklı farklı sandalyeleri karıştırmakla ilgili yazımın sonunda, Eero Saarinen'in ünlü "Tulip(Lale)" masası ile ilgili de bir yazı hazırlayacağımı söylemiştim. Sözümü tutuyorum. Bu defa, bu ikonik masa ile birlikte kullanılabilecek sandalyeler bulmaya çalıştım. Aslında bu masa herşeyle o kadar güzel uyuyor ki bence onun biryerde çirkin durması ancak çaba sarfedilirse gerçekleşebilir. Yine de bazı dekorlarda gerçekten çarpıcı olabiliyor, bulduğum örnekleri umarım siz de benim kadar beğenirsiniz.

At the end of my mix & match chairs post I said I was going to do a post on the famous "Tulip" table by Eero Saarinen. I'm keeping my promise. This time I tried to find chairs that would go well with this iconic table. Actually this table is so versatile that it looks good with almost anything. Still, I managed to come by some decors that make this table really shine. I hope you like them as much as I did.

Here we see the romantic side of the Saarinen table, which I like more than the edgy modern side of it. Didn't I tell you this table is the ultimate versatile piece of furniture?

The dining corner from designer Liza Giles' home. This beautiful house was featured on Decor8, and looking at the house as a whole, I understand that Liza Giles has such a great eye, and that this table is just a perfect choice for her home. The lesson we need to learn from this is: if we want to use this table with it's matching "Tulip" set of chairs, we should accessorize it with feminine objects in order to avoid monotonousness. Just because a table is a major design object doesn't mean we shouldn't blend it in with the rest of our decor.

Here is our second lesson: when the Saarinen table unites forces with wooden chairs, it kicks some major decor ass. It's beyond a dining area now, it's something to be loved, admired, be mesmerized by it's glossiness... Here we see it teamed with the very expensive Cherner armchairs. The flowers, chandelier, the walls...I need new adjectives to express my feelings of love..

Provencal chairs, "Tulip" armchair and marble table. The gold hues in the marble is tying the table to the chairs. And there's the big chandelier again. This decor is a great example of mixing very different style/era furniture together. It looks much more sophisticated and unexpected than using the matching set.

Thonet'in No 9 sandalyeleri ile mutfakta. Bu masa Thonet'lerin her türlüsüyle çok yakışıyor ancak ben olsam Thonet No 14'lerle birleştirirdim onu. In the kitchen with Thonet No 9 chairs. This table looks great with any Thonet, but if I were to buy one I'd pair it with No 14s. A few years ago I saw an apartment in a magazine, and that's how they had used the Tulip table. You can tell how beautiful it was by the fact that I'm still remembering it. I will post that house as soon as I get a scanner.

They were designed in the 1800s by Michael Thonet, and they are pioneers in design because of the bentwood technique and their ability to be disassembled. I had the privilage of meeting Michael Thonet's heir, Peter Thonet (at Domus Academy in Milan).

Designed by Jasper Morrison, this chair is already an icon. That is because it was the first chair to be produced by "gas injection", which means there is air trapped inside the chair, making it unbelievably durable despite it's delicate figure. How do I know this? Stefano Giovannoni told me first hand :) In a lecture of course.

Yine de hepsinin eserleri arasında en az bir adet sandalye tasarımı bulunur. Dünyada belkide yüzbinlerce farklı sandalye varken, yemek odanıza aynı sandalyeden 8 tane koymak büyük bir kayıp değil mi? Farklı model sandalyeleri bir arada kullanmaya ne dersiniz? Üstelik bu şekilde yemek odanıza tarz katabilir, evinizde kullanacağınız farklı stilleri birbirine bağlayabilir ve sizi anlatan bir dekorasyon yaratabilirsiniz. "Is there really a need to design a new chair?" is a question repeatedly asked by famous designers, and yet they all have at least one chair design in their portfolios. There are maybe thousands of different chair designs in the world, so isn't it a big waste to use 8 of the same chair in your dining room? How about combining different chairs? This way you can multiply the style factor of your dining room, blend the different styles in your home, and have a decor that reflects your personality. Besides, you will be saving yourself the trouble of deciding between the chairs you like. You can achieve great combinations with mixing old/new, designer/anonymous, or different materials.

A country style table, wooden chairs and the Philippe Starck "Ghost" chair. I suspect that this chair also goes with anything thanks to it's classical shape and very modern material. Yeah it's not cheap, but it would really elevate the whole look of the other chairs you can score from a flea market. Besides, I think a distinctive chair like "Ghost" looks pathetically vulgar when overdosed, which is when used as a set of 8. Who wants to dine in a room that looks like a store?

This kind of mix & matching takes some advanced skills, the different styles are blended masterly. The table is again very rustic, which is great because this means we can have it cheaply made, and then blow the budget on the Panton chair. Of course, that glorious mirror in the background deserves credit as well...

The Panton chair connects the wooden table and the other chairs with the modernly decorated room. Sometimes I see dining rooms in magazines decorated with 10 Panton chairs, and I think it looks awful. Using only one statuesque design object in a decor works better for accentuating it's monumental properties.

You can also combine different designer chairs like the Bertoia wire chair and Arne Jacobsen "Series 7" chair here, and when your dining room is complete you can end up with a design classics collection! Don't worry if these chairs are way over your budget, because you can find knock-offs of designer chairs anywhere (if you feel ok using them). You can also use a bench instead of many chairs. In this room, the colors and materials tie everything together.
